Keep Your Shots On The Court
Each year, 5000 youth under the age of 21 die due to underage drinking and underage binge drinking. In addition, nearly half of all 15-20 year olds killed in car crashes during prom season in 2004 involved alcohol. The Sobe Sober Prom Promise Campaign is aimed at helping to bring awareness to parents and students on the dangers of underage drinking during prom.
The Prom Promise campaign will be implemented in 2 phases
Phase 1 will be the development, printing and mailing of Parent Prom Promise cards. These cards will have tips for parents to help keep their teen safe during prom and after prom activities. Club members of schools participating in the campaign will place mailing address labels (provided by the school) and stamps (provided by DFYIT) and mail the cards to all parents of high school seniors who may participate in prom and/ or post prom activities.
Phase 2 will consist of establishing a DFYIT info table at the actual prom location (manned by DFYIT members). Anti-drinking messages and information will be readily available for prom participants. They will also receive a Sobe Sober Breathalyzer key chain to be used by students to make an informed decision about getting inside of a vehicle in which the driver may be under the influence of alcohol.
This year, the Sobe Sober Prom Promise Campagin has expanded to 14 in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties.
